Writings

Hieroglyphs are elaborate forms of picture writing that were used by Ancient Egyptians. There are 700 different hieroglyphic signs. The signs are intentionally difficult so that the average person can not understand them. They were usually written on papyrus, but also on monuments, rocks, and other important items. The Ancient Egyptians use people called scribes to write and decipher the hieroglyphs. The scribes are experts in this type of writing and hold a high position in society.
